What do you do when a winery opens 15 minutes from your house? Throw together a cheese plate, pack a deck of cards and convince your boyfriend to grab his camera. Wild Sun Winery had their opening this weekend, and it was perfect. The sun was shining, and there was a slight breeze blowing. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Planning a cheese plate isn’t too hard. Grab some cheese (soft and a hard) and then pair with sweet and savory. Easy peasy. Clint and I picked Brie and Applewood Smoked Gouda for our cheeses. We also grabbed some “Supremely Spicy” hummus to top our veggies (homegrown cucumber and baby carrots). We packed grapes, strawberries, kalamata olives, prosciutto and homemade sweet pepper relish to top our toasted French bread.
We paired our cheese plate with Wild Sun Winery’s Red Dusk semi-dry wine. They had a live band playing and plenty of tables with umbrellas to provide shade. We hung out for a couple hours eating, playing cards and listening to music. It was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to head back!
